What is the APRSAF
Space Education for All Working Group?

The APRSAF Space Education for All Working Group was launched in 2001.
At that time it was called the Space Education and Awareness Working Group.

Promoting space education for young people,
teachers and educators in the Asia-Pacific region

APRSAF is an international forum launched for the purpose of enhancing the use of space in the Asia-Pacific region. It has participants from space agencies, and from government and international institutions with needs of space. It is a forum for individual members to exchange information about their space activities and future plans on the use of space, and to discuss cooperative activities among them.

The SE4AWG was originally established as the “Space Education and Awareness” Working Group in 2001 and changed its name to “Space Education” Working Group in 2014. And in 2021, the name was changed to the current “Space Education for All” Working Group.The APRSAF Space Education for All Working Group (SE4AWG) works for youth, school teachers and educators in the Asia Pacific region with the following objectives.Its scope of activities ranges from early childhood education, secondary education, higher education, to adult education in formal and informal manners. JAXA Space Education Center serves as the Secretariat, and our Director co-chairs the group.

Objectives of the APRSAF Space Education for All Working Group

  • Effective use of space educational materials to enhance the education of young people.
  • Provision of educational opportunities for young people in the fields of space science technology and its application.
  • Enhancement of mutual understanding among countries in the region through exchange opportunities for young people with the theme of space education activity.

APRSAF Space Education for All Working Group Annual Session

Persons in charge of space education at space institutions, private corporations and organizations,
and education and research institutions gather for the session, from more than a dozen countries.

It is a place for space education specialists in the region to share information and discuss cooperative activities as well as challenges.

During the annual session, members actively discuss policies for SE4AWG’s cooperative events, including the APRSAF Water Rocket Event, Poster Contest, and Education Seminars. They share the event results, in addition to information about space educational materials, best practices, and problems in space education in member countries, etc.
